Winnie the Pooh in Oil Pastels

As my first work in oil pastels (in a long time!), I decided to try something simple and thus, this Winnie the Pooh was created! I had a great time working on it. It was a good chance to try oil pastels because I got to try working in this medium while doing something with a simple color scheme. To get the shades blended (Which don't show up too well on the photo), I used Kleenex and my fingers. I noticed that The colors really lightened as I blended things resulting in me having do do several coats. Also, I had to be careful with the black of the eyebrow, eye and nose. The black and red shavings loved to find their way to the yellow. Have a great day, everyone!

We're All Mad Here!

My latest shirt depicting my favorite Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat! (Followed closely by the White Rabbit) As usual, I used acrylic paint and let it sit for a few days before hand washing in cold water. After that, I can machine wash; however, the washing machine fades the color quickly, so I prefer to just hand wash in warm water. Have a great week everyone!

Heart from Flour and Salt Dough

I made this for a friend of mine.... it was a disaster! I started out with a simple recipe for Salt Dough, intending to make little pendents. However, I had trouble getting the salt dough to make a perfect small shape so I improvised and formed it into a heart :) <3
The recipe is as follows: 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, cold water.Mix until has consistency of play dough;bake at 250 for 2 hours. After cool, paint. I used simple acrylic paint and sharpies.

All in all, I'd recommend for larger things, such as this heart but don't go in with expectations too high. I tried a couple variations and couldn't get the consistency right and so the dough was either too wet or else flaked off while trying to mold. Also, the smaller things (beads) I made ended up full of cracks within about a half hour of being in the oven. However, it would be a fun project to do with young kids if you don't mind getting a bit dirty! Good luck! :)

Also, I apologize for the lack of posts. College is pretty hectic, but with summer coming up, there should be more! :)

Soul Bag aka FUN BAG!

Since I came to college, I've had to do more shopping on my own and in an effort to be more conscious of my environmental impact, I bought a reusable bag. From there I decided to spice it up a bit.

To do this, I got foam brushes and some generic (on a students budget!!! XD) acrylic paint (Which it so happens is washable but not recommend for human skin... however, since when did I pay attention to the rules?)

Then I made funky designs on my hands and feet... and well you can guess the rest ;)

It was a crazy and fun project (particularly, when my roommate walked in to me covered in paint!). I also added little fingerprint dots everywhere.

As a conclusion I added "Soul" to it. Overall, it was a fun and easy project. I also was finding random bits of paint on me for days afterwards! Note: spread lots and lots and loooooots of newspaper on the floor. A couple of times I almost walked on the regular floor due to momentarily forgetting the paint on my feet.

Some Drawings

I apologize for my lack of "crafts," college keeps me busier than I could possible imagine. However, I am trying to get drawing more, so here you are! (I must say the Pikachu-Link cross is my favorite XD )

To Mom and Dad

At the moment, I am very confused about how I will proceed with college. I entered as a Biology major with Pre-Med track. As midterms approach, we have to start looking at classes we want to take and I was noticing a variety of things, all medical related, which interested me. There's just straight forward Biology, a Nursing program, then also at a hospital there's a Paramedic program and don't even get me started on the minors! Looking at this, I started to wonder whether I wanted to even go to Medical School anymore or pursue a career in Emergency Medicine as a paramedic and even get my Nursing degree before getting paramedic. When I told my dad this, he said "That's fine, you're keeping your eyes open and looking at the options. There's a lot out there." Quickly I responded that whatever I do, I want it to be in medicine, but then started rambling about all of the other opportunities.

Again my father reassured me about all of the options and said that I should do what I want, but get the requirements in and a degree to be able to support myself, whether as a RN, Paramedic or something else. "The thing is, I don't think I could be a Nurse. I don't think I could handle not having the ability to do a procedure I knew could help save a person. I haven't encountered it as an EMT yet, but that's why I want to get Paramedic, I want to be able to do whatever is needed. That's why I want to go to med school. I don't want to sit and wait."

"Well, you just answered your question yourself Katie." he said.

Thank you Mom and Dad for listening me ramble today. College is a blast but it's overwhelming and I don't know how I could do it without you two. <3

Mom's Birthday and Going to College

And so the time has come! Tuesday I leave for college which is... intimidating. I will be entering as a Biology/Pre-Medicine student. For about a week now my room has been in shambles as I tried to choice what to bring and what not too bring. Finally, my room is no longer in shambles... and even better, it's clean!!! So, with my room smelling all fresh and nice, I decided to get started on my mom's birthday gift- Tigger! (I just realized that I did not post my dad's Eeyore.... I shall do that soon.) I sketched and outlined it on a canvas board and this afternoon I will paint it and get back to everyone with how it turns out. For everyone else heading to college, drive safe and be safe :) For everyone still in high school and the family of students, Thank you so much. For the great times. The laughter. The tears. The love.

Thank you Mom and Dad for your support. I love you. Happy Birthday Mom :)
